In this video we explore the etymology of the Spanish / castellano language and the historic factors that have given Spanish its unique collection of words, 75% of which can be traces to Latin, but a quarter of which have their roots in other languages. We will look at a selection of examples from Arabic, Náhuatl, Quechua and Taíno, and explore differences in Spanish spoken in Spain, Mexico, and South America.
